if you are worried about viruses that comes form your friend's pen drive or memory card then there is a simple trick to identify that the USB drive is free from viruses or not, just follow these steps-
for windows XP :
STEP 1 : - configure your system to show the hidden files and folders (system) and file extensions-
*****.exe
*****.bat
*****.com
for windows 7 :
STEP 1 : - configure your system to show the hidden files and folders (system) and file extensions-
*****.exe
*****.bat
*****.com
for windows XP :
STEP 1 : - configure your system to show the hidden files and folders (system) and file extensions-
- open my computer
- click on tools menu --> folder options -->
- click on view tab
- check following items-
- Show Hidden Files And Folders
- uncheck following-
- Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)
- Hide Extensions for known file types .
- click on Apply
- Ok.
- Open Windows Explorer (right click on My Computer --> Select Explore )
- click on your usb drive form left most pane.
- see the files and folders in the window there will be your data files and may be some files like
*****.exe
*****.bat
*****.com
- if you find one of above file in your USB drive then there my be a virus in your drive. now select the suspected file/s and delete them. Remember do not open any suspected file.
for windows 7 :
STEP 1 : - configure your system to show the hidden files and folders (system) and file extensions-
- open my computer
- click on organize --> folder and search options -->
- click on view tab
- check following items-
- Show Hidden Files And Folders and drive
- uncheck following-
- Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)
- Hide Extensions for known file types
- click on Apply
- Ok.
- Open My Computer
- click on your usb drive form left most pane.
- see the files and folders in the window there will be your data files and may be some files like
*****.exe
*****.bat
*****.com
- if you find one of above file in your USB drive then there my be a virus in your drive. now select the suspected file/s and delete them. Remember do not open any suspected file.
